Walter Schob

Walter J. Schob Jr. was an avid scuba diver whose passion for diving and service left a lasting mark on the diving community. He began diving in 1967, earning his NASDS certification, and went on to explore waters across the globe—including Australia, Hawaii, Indonesia, and throughout Europe and Africa. Along the way, he became an underwater photographer, an underwater aircraft accident investigator, and served on numerous underwater recovery teams. Walt also dedicated his time to the hyperbaric decompression chamber on Catalina Island, where he served as both a crew member and volunteer supervisor beginning in 1985. His work there directly supported the treatment of diving-related injuries, helping countless individuals in need. Within Antelope Valley Desert Divers, Walt was one of the club’s early and most influential members. He served in multiple roles on the Board and played a key role in shaping the organization we know today. Because of his vision and leadership, the annual June Lake Cleanup began in 1984—a tradition that continues to this day. He was also instrumental in getting the club officially incorporated, helping establish a foundation that has supported generations of divers. Walt’s contributions to diving, safety, and our club will not be forgotten. His legacy continues in the traditions we carry forward and the community he helped build. Walter did so much in his life, he did so many things including a test pilot and had over 6000 flight hours. I encourage you to check out his link below.
